Goffs Programme of Careers, Information and Guidance Education - Sixth Form
We understand that Sixth Form is a crucial step on a student's journey towards further study at University or into their chosen career. Students at Goffs are supported with personalised support, advice and guidance throughout their time in the Sixth Form. Students have regular one to one meetings with their Form Tutors, in addition to support from the Director of Learning and our dedicated Sixth Form Learner Mentor.
Key Theme:
Transition to Employment, Higher/Further Education or apprenticeships. The programme encourages students to plan for their future and identify the qualifications needed to achieve their goals.
Activities Include:
All students have regular mentoring meetings with Form Tutors, with a focus on career and further education aspirations at key points in the year
Enrichment days include a focus on careers and employability. All students attend a period of work shadowing
Students take part in CV writing workshops and a 'Mock Assessment Centre' with interviews and an observed group task run by visiting employers.
Students attend talks and have the opportunity to meet with external careers advisors and visiting professionals from various fields.
Students attend the UCAS Discovery conference, which as well as representatives from most UK Universities, also includes various seminars on Apprenticeships and employer stands with details of apprenticeships available in their organisations.
There are visiting University speakers who run personal statement workshops and guide students on how to choose the right University for them.
Weekly drop-in sessions for students on both UCAS applications and searching for employment or apprenticeships support students find the right pathway for them.
All students have access to Unifrog, which is a destination platform and allows students to research and search for both University courses and Apprenticeship opportunities.
Students are given personalised guidance regarding applying for their chosen Post-18 destination.
